Cathy was an inspiration to countless people, both inside and outside the rooms of recovery. She was affectionately known as “Big Red” or “Mrs. C,” but to those who loved her, she was simply Cathy. She was a beloved daughter and sister, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and a trusted sponsor and friend. At the heart of everything she did, Cathy was a proud woman in recovery.
Throughout her life, Cathy demonstrated an unwavering commitment to helping those who were suffering. While raising her family in Fall River, Massachusetts, she became deeply involved in the local recovery community. She was instrumental in establishing a Recovery Community Organization (RCO) in Fall River that remains active and continues to thrive today. Her contributions were immeasurable—from providing peer support and advocacy to working tirelessly to reduce the stigma surrounding substance use and recovery.
After relocating to Florida in 2019, Cathy quickly made a lasting impact throughout the recovery community. Her leadership, experience and passion inspired everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She immediately recognized the need for additional recovery resources in Charlotte County—and if you knew Cathy, you know she took that as a sign to get right to work.
Cathy became the Family Peer Specialist at Kimmie’s Recovery Zone and began laying the groundwork for a Recovery Community Organization here in Charlotte County.
“If you knew Cathy, you know she took that as a sign to get right to work.”
Tragically, Cathy’s life was cut short by health complications in 2021. Although she is no longer with us, her legacy lives on through the profound and lasting impact she made on countless individuals, families and communities.
Cathy’s Place was established with immense love, respect and gratitude as a lasting tribute to her memory—and to continue the important work she so passionately began.
